印刷用ページ 12月8日に発売されたWii U本体ですが、初回起動時に行われる本体更新にてネットワーク環境により実施には1時間以上かかることが任天堂から発表されており、発売直後のサーバの混雑もあって一部では失敗するケースも発生しています。
この初回起動時の本体更新ですが、セットアップ中に「インターネットに接続してWii U本体を更新しますか？」と質問された際に「やめる」を選択することで、更新を一旦回避することが出来ます。

この選択肢で「更新する」を選択した場合は、データのダウンロードとインストールが行われるため、この間はWii Uを操作できなくなり、完了まで待つ必要があります。
「やめる」を選択した場合でもWii Uメニューは表示されますので、本体をインターネットに接続していれば、ゲームを遊びながら自動で更新データをダウンロードすることも可能です。
（※更新前の場合は、遊べるのは本体内蔵とパッケージソフトに限られます）
ダウンロードが完了した後であれば、更新のインストールは10分程度で完了します。それまでの間はネットワーク機能は使用できませんが、購入や起動がこれからの方はご検討ください。
