印刷用ページ Wii Uでは、ゲームパッドのスクリーンを利用してテレビを使わずにWii Uソフトを遊べるようになっていますが、この遊び方を採用するかどうかは開発者が選択することになっているとのこと。
Nintendo of America社長のReggie Fils-Aime氏によると、ゲームパッドのスクリーンをテレビの代わりにする遊び方には全ソフトが対応できるようになっているものの、実際に遊べるようにするかどうかは各ソフト開発者の判断に委ねられているとのこと。
なお、ゲームパッドのスクリーンをテレビの代わりとして用いる遊び方に対応しているかどうかは、Wii Uソフトのパッケージに記載されます。
ちなみに任天堂内では、ゲームパッドのスクリーンだけでWii Uソフトを遊ぶ機能を「Off-TV Play」と呼んでいるとのこと。
「Off-TV Play」機能は、Wii Uとゲームパッドが持つ最大の特徴となっていますので、ぜひ多くのソフトに対応して欲しいところですね。
